Whose Idea Was It To Make Peanuts an Airplane Snack Anyway?!

Practical tips for traveling with a food allergy, from booking your reservations to eating on the road.
Whose idea was it to give peanuts as a complimentary snack on airplanes anyway?! Thankfully, peanuts are a thing of the past for most airlines, replaced by pretzels or cookies.ββββββββ
ββββββββ
But even so, air travel with a peanut allergy requires patience & planning. So here are some top safe travel tips:ββββββββ
ββββββββ
βοΈ If the airline has the option, indicate the allergy on your ticket during booking.ββββββββ
ββββββββ
π±After booking, call the airline to request peanuts not be served on board the flight due to an allergy.ββββββββ
ββββββββ
π When packing carry-on luggage, include extra peanut-free snacks & meal options. Apples, gummies, dried fruit, cold pizza, salami slices, and crackers all work. Or, to reduce the risk of allergen exposure, choose to not eat in-flight at all.ββββββββ
ββββββββ
Of course, have your Benadryl and Epi-Pens within reach at all times! π (Hint: they can go in your carry on!)ββββββββ
ββββββββ
π£ At the gate, speak with an agent. Request to board early. And (if you're comfortable with it) make an announcement asking anyone with a peanut snack to wait until deplaning to open or eat it.ββββββββ
ββββββββ
π§Ό Once boarded, take the extra time to clean your immediate area and anywhere your child may touch with disinfectant wipes. For more severe allergies, you can bring a bedsheet along to cover the seat with – a twin fitted sheet can work wonders for this! And a silicone placemat to cover the tray table.ββββββββ
ββββββββ
Most importantly, remember every family has its own comfort level. It's 100% okay to choose what feels safe for YOU. The more you travel, the more extra precautions become second nature.ββββββββ
ββββββββ
Because even with a peanut allergy, you can go on trips & have wonderfully full family adventures. πΊ πββββββββ

So take the trip! Maybe send us a postcard! π πββββββββ
